CHANGZHOU, China, Aug. 21, 2025 — On the evening of August 16, during the ninth round of the Jiangsu Football City League (“Su Chao”), Changzhou achieved a 1-0 victory over Zhenjiang. This decisive goal ended a 98-day, more than 700-minute scoring drought and helped the team fulfill its “small goals” of securing a point, scoring, and winning a match.
Beyond the football field, Changzhou is also making significant breakthroughs in the global new energy sector. Serving as a crucial nexus in the worldwide new energy supply chain, the city has established a comprehensive industrial cycle encompassing “generation-storage-transmission-usage-grid.” Notably, BYD’s ro-ro vessels, the Changzhou ferries, are shipping EVs to Europe, and an impressive one in ten electric vehicles globally are powered by “Made in Changzhou” batteries. In 2024, the city’s new energy industry surpassed 850 billion yuan, laying the groundwork for a trillion-yuan industrial landmark built upon its reputation as a “City of Smart Manufacturing.”
Clever innovations have also emerged in the cultural and tourism sectors. On June 21, during the match against Nanjing, a “dinosaur squad” from China Dinosaur Land garnered significant attention. Attractions such as Chunqiu Yancheng Scenic Area, Canal 5 Creativity Campus, Qingguo Lane, and Tianmu Lake consistently attract visitors from both within China and internationally. Capitalizing on the enthusiasm generated by the League, the Changzhou Municipal Bureau of Culture, Radio, Television and Tourism has intensified its “football plus culture-tourism” initiative. For example, during the Dragon Boat Festival holiday, non-local residents received free admission, drawing over 100,000 visitors from Yangzhou alone. Following the victory against Zhenjiang, incentives like complimentary entry to Tianmu Lake for visitors named Zhao, a stadium open week, and consumer voucher giveaways are successfully transforming game-day attendance into tangible economic benefits.
Propelled by the league’s momentum, Changzhou’s GDP exceeded 500 billion yuan in the first half of 2025, marking a 5.8% year-on-year increase and maintaining its position among Jiangsu’s leading trillion-yuan cities.
While on-pitch victory is not the ultimate goal, football has become a vibrant symbol of the city’s spirit. With the resolve to overcome impasses, the boldness to grasp opportunities, and the insight to blend culture and tourism, Changzhou is charting a larger course of breakthroughs in industrial transformation and urban development.
