Noah Wyle, who portrays an emergency room doctor on The Pitt, achieved his first Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series on Sunday evening.

During his acceptance speech on Sunday night, Wyle dedicated the award, stating, “To anyone going on shift tonight or coming off shift tonight, thank you for doing that job. This one is for you.”

Later that same evening, The Pitt also received the Emmy Award for Best Drama Series.

On The Pitt, Wyle’s character manages an emergency room, grappling with lingering trauma from the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic’s onset. This marks a return to a familiar role for Wyle, who previously garnered five Emmy nominations in the 1990s for his portrayal of an ER doctor on the series ER. In that show, he depicted a young physician under the tutelage of a challenging mentor, played by Eriq La Salle.

Presently, in The Pitt, his character has transitioned into mentoring younger doctors—a narrative arc that has led the estate of ER creator Michael Crichton to label The Pitt as an ER-spinoff.

The second season of The Pitt is scheduled to premiere in January 2026.
