Mississauga, Ontario Nov 27, 2025 – Alectra Utilities has received recognition from the Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) for its significant contribution to restoring power to Ukrainian schools severely damaged by ongoing Russian missile and drone attacks.
During a November 21 presentation to Alectra’s Board of Directors, UWC President Paul Grod underscored the extensive damage to Ukraine’s energy and civilian infrastructure over more than three and a half years of conflict, which has recently escalated. Grod noted that over half of Ukraine’s energy infrastructure has been damaged or destroyed, leaving millions of Ukrainians to face a harsh, dark winter.
Demonstrating its commitment to humanitarian aid, Alectra contributed $100,000 to the UWC’s Energize Ukraine initiative, a program supported by collaborators such as Rodan Energy Solutions. These funds facilitated the construction of a solar-powered microgrid with battery storage at a school located northeast of Kyiv. This system provides essential light and heat for children during winter and functions as a community resilience hub during power outages.
Paul Grod presented an appreciation plaque to Jane Armstrong, Chair of Alectra’s Board, and Brian Bentz, President and CEO, acknowledging the solidarity shown by Alectra’s Board, shareholders, and customers towards the people of Ukraine.
“I am deeply honored by Alectra’s leadership for their dedication to supporting the Ukrainian people. My sincere thanks go to CEO Brian Bentz, Board Chair Jane Armstrong, and Past Chair Norm Loberg for their generous assistance. Your support is crucial in helping Ukrainian communities maintain resilience amidst unimaginable difficulties,” Grod stated.
Brian Bentz, President and CEO of Alectra, added: “At Alectra, we uphold the values of community and resilience. Our support for Ukraine during this critical period reflects our dedication to helping individuals overcome challenges and build a more hopeful future. We are proud to collaborate with the Ukrainian World Congress and contribute to a project that delivers light and optimism to children and families.”
