Sumit Majumdar President of Buffalo Biodiesel Inc

Buffalo, New York – October 7, 2025 – For over two decades, Buffalo Biodiesel Inc. has operated as a clean-energy recycling company. The firm currently collects and recycles used cooking oil from more than 28,000 locations across fifteen states.

President Sumit Majumdar issued the following statement:

“Buffalo Biodiesel continues to face hundreds of thefts each week, as organized crime groups steal used cooking oil from our containers positioned at supplier sites. This ongoing challenge is significantly overwhelming our staff and operational systems.

Regarding the permit for our Town of Tonawanda facility, we openly acknowledge a lapse in compliance. As a responsible and reputable business, we hold ourselves fully accountable. We have now obtained complete permission and authority through an agreement with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation to operate this facility without any restrictions on collected or processed volumes. This ensures Buffalo Biodiesel can continue to fully service our suppliers.

The DEC has provided us with adequate timelines until July 2026 to complete the necessary permitting requirements, which is extremely helpful. We have already submitted updates to our existing application and are presently making essential modifications to our Town of Tonawanda facility, which is already undergoing an upgrade exceeding $1 million. This investment will culminate in a state-of-the-art used cooking oil processing facility, poised to be the only one of its kind in New York State.

While our competitors have withdrawn their processing facilities and the associated jobs from New York State, Buffalo Biodiesel remains dedicated to maintaining both processing operations and employment here. We had the opportunity several years ago, much like our competitors, to relocate processing to what could be considered an easier and more profitable business and regulatory environment. However, we maintained our loyalty to our state, our community, our suppliers, and our workforce of over 100 employees. For us, profits are not the sole measure of success. Our benchmark includes being a contributing member to our community and state, supporting our employees and their jobs, providing exceptional service to our suppliers, and ensuring our environment is left in a better condition for the future. To continue honoring these objectives, Buffalo Biodiesel remains committed to processing in New York State.”
