Martinez, California – October 26, 2025 – The Wine Country Chapter of Women on the Wing, a program associated with Pheasants Forever, is delighted to host a Women’s Learn to Shoot event. This event is set for Sunday, October 26, 2025, at the Martinez Gun Club, located at 900 Waterbird Way, Martinez, California. Commencing at 9:45 a.m. Pacific Time, the program intends to create an encouraging and informative atmosphere for women across all skill levels to participate in the sport of shooting.
The Women’s Learn to Shoot program is structured to offer participants a supportive framework for developing or enhancing their shooting abilities. Instruction will be provided by Blake Fahmie, a nationally recognized competitive trap shooter, instructor, and coach. Blake brings extensive background and proficiency in shooting sports, guaranteeing that each participant receives expert advice, practical techniques, and individualized coaching. Attendees will have the chance to shoot 25 clays, which is included in the registration fee, with additional clays available for purchase at the venue. Both 12- and 20-gauge ammunition can be bought on-site for convenience. Shotguns will be provided for those who do not bring their own, and lunch will be served.
Unlike programs focused on hunting, this event concentrates on sporting clays, a target-shooting activity that does not necessitate a hunting license. Participants can enjoy the sport in a secure, controlled setting while grasping essential techniques such as proper firearm handling, stance, and aiming. Instruction is delivered in small groups to ensure personalized attention and optimize skill improvement. Safety briefings, structured exercises, and continuous supervision reinforce a safe learning environment, enabling participants to build confidence and competence in their capabilities.
Beyond the technical instruction, the event aims to gather like-minded women who share an interest in outdoor sports, shooting, and conservation. Women on the Wing – Wine Country Chapter believes that nurturing a sense of community is as vital as skill enhancement. Participants are encouraged to interact, exchange experiences, and forge connections with peers and mentors who offer mutual support and inspiration. By establishing a space where women can connect over shared interests, the chapter strengthens bonds within the community while advocating for a positive, inclusive culture in outdoor sports.
The program aligns closely with the mission and vision of the chapter. The chapter’s vision is to cultivate a community of educated, skilled, and empowered women engaged in shooting sports, hunting, and wildlife conservation. Its mission emphasizes providing safe, structured, and educational programs that promote skill development, ethical practices, and environmental stewardship while building connections among participants. Events such as the Women’s Learn to Shoot program exemplify this mission by blending practical instruction with hands-on learning, mentorship opportunities, and peer interaction.
Through events like this, Women on the Wing strives to equip participants with practical skills that extend beyond the shooting range. Instruction covers:
- Appropriate shotgun handling and safety procedures
- Target shooting fundamentals and accuracy training
- Methods to enhance consistency and confidence
In addition to technical guidance, the program underscores the values of responsibility and ethical involvement in outdoor sports. Participants gain a deeper understanding of how their actions influence the environment, wildlife populations, and the broader conservation community. While sporting clays do not involve hunting, the principles of responsible participation, respect for the sport, and environmental stewardship are integral to the program’s philosophy.
Registration for the event costs $50 per participant, which includes 25 clays, instruction, and lunch. Additional clays and ammunition can be purchased at the club for those wishing to extend their practice. This blend of instruction, practice, and engagement provides a comprehensive experience that motivates participants to learn, apply skills, and interact in a supportive and educational environment.
