EZHOU, China, Aug. 21, 2025 — On July 17, 2025, the three-year-old Ezhou Huahu International Airport solidified its position as a major air cargo hub in China. According to data from Hubei International Logistics Airport Co., Ltd., the operator of Ezhou Huahu Airport, international cargo and mail throughput in the first half of 2025 reached 249,000 tons, marking a 261% year-on-year increase. During the same period, nearly 6,500 international and regional flights were operated, representing a 333% year-on-year rise. As of July 17, the airport had handled over 60,000 cargo flights, with total cargo and mail throughput exceeding 2 million tons.

An extensive global network

Huahu Airport has established 45 international and regional cargo routes, making it central China’s leader in this category. It also operates 59 domestic cargo routes connecting 54 cities, covering all provincial-level administrative regions and ranking first nationwide. This airport serves as a crucial component of the Air Silk Road, enabling next-day delivery for domestic shipments and two-day delivery for international destinations. Its first overseas warehouse has been launched in Milan, and 16 foreign airlines, including Atlas, Etihad, and Maersk, have commenced operations there.

An unparalleled efficiency

Thanks to the airport’s strategic location, 90% of China’s total economic area is accessible within 1.5 hours, and major economies worldwide can be reached within 8 hours. This advantage effectively supports the rapid distribution of high-value and time-sensitive goods. For instance, Ms. Yang in Shanghai received lotus pods and fried cakes from her hometown by the next morning; the “lychee routes” transport 2 million fresh fruits across the country daily during midsummer; and seasonal delicacies such as cherries, bayberries, and imported durian reach consumers’ dining tables without delay.

A strong industrial catalyst

The airport’s robust cargo capacity significantly stimulates the development of surrounding industries. The Ezhou Airport Comprehensive Bonded Zone (Cross-border E-commerce Comprehensive Pilot Zone) was inaugurated two months ago, and its industrial park has already secured contracts with 46 enterprises, with 140 having registered. Over the past three years, 225 projects, each valued at over 100 million yuan, have been established around the airport. Furthermore, 25 advanced manufacturing projects, including Inframat Nano Materials and Demark Semiconductor, are currently under construction. Biomedical companies are actively developing their international supply chain centers, and Zhongshi (Hubei) International Logistics Co., Ltd. is investing 200 million yuan in constructing an international freight station.
