Hong Kong, China, Aug. 26, 2025 — As global industrial supply chains undergo restructuring and China’s manufacturing sector prioritizes “quality breakthroughs,” entrepreneurs from Zhejiang are once again stepping onto the international stage.

On August 29, 2025, a pivotal event for the globalization of China’s materials industry will commence at the Xizi Hotel in Hangzhou. This venue will host both the Acquisition Closing Ceremony for Global New Material International’s acquisition of Merck’s SUSONITY and the Launch Ceremony for GNMI’s Asia-Pacific Headquarters. These events signify a new phase for what stands as the largest cross-border acquisition in China’s pearlescent materials industry.

This occasion is more than just a ceremony; it serves as a strategic declaration for the future.

One month ago in Frankfurt, Germany, the acquisition of Merck’s global Surface Solutions business (SUSONITY) was officially finalized by Asia’s leading company in pearlescent effect materials and synthetic mica. Valued at €665 million, this deal represents the largest cross-border acquisition within China’s pearlescent materials industry.

As a pioneer in China’s reform and opening-up, Zhejiang has consistently led global exploration initiatives. GNMI’s acquisition of Merck’s SUSONITY extends far beyond conventional capital export or market expansion; it signifies a deep integration of global resources across technology, branding, channels, and culture. Hangzhou was chosen as the location for the closing ceremony because, following the merger and acquisition, Global New Material International’s Asia-Pacific headquarters will be situated in Tonglu, Hangzhou. This strategic move aims to leverage the industrial ecosystem and talent resources of the Yangtze River Delta to forge a “Symbiotic Engine” that propels global industrial progress.

Another key highlight of the event is the Forum on Corporate Internationalization and Cross-border Integration Practices, which will convene industry leaders, experts, scholars, and business representatives. Su Ertian, Chairman and CEO of Global New Material International, is scheduled to deliver a keynote speech, providing in-depth insights into the reconstruction of the global materials industry value chain and the experiences of Zhejiang entrepreneurs engaging globally.

This day marks a significant milestone and the beginning of a new journey for GNMI. The acquisition of SUSONITY embodies the globalization process undertaken by Zhejiang entrepreneurs and the broader Chinese manufacturing industry. It conveys a clear message: in today’s rapidly transforming global economic landscape, achieving global discourse power necessitates active integration, openness, and coexistence.

On August 29, we invite you to gather in Hangzhou to witness this historic moment and focus on the evolving paradigm of Zhejiang entrepreneurs’ globalization—moving from “going global” to “integrating in”—and to explore new pathways and a new future for the internationalization of Chinese enterprises.
