SHIJIAZHUANG, China, July 03, 2024 — Recently, the newly added No.1 transformer at the Xingtai 1,000 kV ultra-high voltage (UHV) substation in Xinhe County, Hebei Province, was successfully commissioned, according to State Grid Hebei Electric Power Co., Ltd. This increase in capacity, from 6 million kVA to 9 million kVA, significantly enhances the region’s ability to receive power transmitted from Shanxi, Shaanxi, and other areas. This ensures a safe and stable power supply for the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region throughout the summer months.

The Xingtai 1,000 kV UHV substation serves as a crucial hub within the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei-Shandong load center, playing a critical role in “transmitting electricity from the west to the east and facilitating mutual supply between the south and the north.” With adjustments made to the “west-to-east power transmission” channel this year, all “external electricity into Hebei” is now solely dependent on these UHV power transmission channels.

Wei Zhanning, deputy director of the UHV Construction Management Center at the State Grid Hebei Electric Power Construction Company, explains that the newly added No.1 transformer will not only address the increasing electricity demands of both residents and industries during the summer peak season, but also effectively prevent large-scale power outages caused by transformer failures, guaranteeing reliable power supply during peak hours.

Liang Lihui, the station master of Xingtai 1000 kV UHV substation, states, “Since the beginning of this year, the maximum load we have received from external power transmission has reached 4.35 million kW. After the commissioning of the newly added No. 1 transformer, the capacity to receive external power transmission has increased by 3 million kW, which is sufficient to meet the daily electricity needs of 1.1 million urban residents during the summer peak season.”
