HEFEI, China, July 21, 2025 — The inaugural First Meteorological and Economic Expo (referred to as “the Expo”), focusing on the “meteorological economy,” took place from July 18 to 20 at the Hefei Binhu International Convention and Exhibition Center. It was organized by the China Meteorological Service Association.
“Meteorology Plus” Full Industrial Chain Reveals New Blueprint for Empowering Diverse Industries
Under the theme “Integrating Meteorology into the New Economy, Joining Hands to Create a Better Future,” the Expo provided the first systematic and comprehensive overview of the meteorological economy.
More than a hundred exhibitors participated in the Expo, representing over 20 sectors such as meteorology, artificial intelligence, low-altitude economy, transportation, tourism, healthcare, wellness, and financial insurance. They displayed a wide array of meteorological technology products, including intelligent integrated drones capable of both fixed-wing and rotor flight for meteorological applications, laser virtual wind towers for optimal wind farm siting, and highly effective air cannons designed to disperse smog and mitigate hail.
The Expo effectively linked industrial, capital, and innovation ecosystems. By implementing various strategies like investment and financing presentations, industry matchmaking, and technology partnerships, it established a comprehensive, full-lifecycle industrial service framework. Participating companies leveraged product showcases, supply-demand matching, and on-site agreements to forge precise connections and achieve efficient business transformations, thereby broadening the scope of the “meteorology plus” industry.
Emergence of High-Tech Meteorological Products Offers Precise Services for Public Life
Several high-tech meteorological products were unveiled at the Expo. Ranging from drones capable of penetrating clouds for detection to compact “pocket-sized weather stations,” these new meteorological technologies are moving beyond simply “living by the weather” towards actively “calculating the skies and earth.” As a result, meteorological technology is now able to serve people’s lives with enhanced precision.
From AI-powered meteorological service assistants to specialized solutions for the “low-altitude economy” that leverage meteorological data, the Expo functioned as both a showcase for technology and a vital platform for transitioning the meteorological economy from theoretical “concept” to practical “application,” and from a “fragmented” state to an “integrated” one.
During the Expo, meteorology transcended its traditional association with simple weather conditions like “sunny, cloudy, warm, or cold.” It has evolved into a pivotal factor of production and a foundational supporting element, propelling the advancement of cutting-edge technologies and benefiting daily life.
Popular Science Ignites New Momentum for Meteorological Science Development
The Expo served not only as a major platform for technology and product demonstrations but also as an engaging “marvelous journey of meteorology,” cultivated through popular science initiatives.
Emphasizing the convergence of “popular science + technology + life,” the Expo showcased engaging meteorological research tools, a comprehensive array of meteorological science education materials, immersive interactive exhibits, AI piano robots blending technology with art, and 4K HD screens featuring AI interaction that animated meteorological phenomena. This approach made meteorological knowledge accessible and “portable” through an edutainment format, shifting learning from passive “listening” to active “playing” and “studying.” It transformed abstract knowledge into tangible, interactive real-world scenarios, thereby imparting a “grand meteorological perspective” through popular science.
Additionally, the Expo included a dedicated area for university scientific exchange and introduced investment and financing firms. It consolidated innovative resources, supported corporate innovation, guided industrial growth, nurtured skilled technological professionals, and infused fresh dynamism into the burgeoning meteorological economy sector, thereby accelerating its expansion.
During the Expo, approximately 2,000 attendees, including delegates from government agencies, international bodies, prominent meteorologists from China and abroad, industry company representatives, professional visitors, and media personnel, convened to observe this significant milestone in the advancement of the meteorological economy.
As the inaugural Meteorological and Economic Expo illuminated Hefei, the China Meteorological Service Association concurrently marked its 10th anniversary. Moving forward, the Association intends to uphold its commitment to standards, foster innovation, and strengthen collaborations, partnering with various sectors to collaboratively shape a remarkable future for the meteorological economy, transitioning it from an “invisible engine” into a “visible pillar.”
