SHENZHEN, China, June 24, 2024 — A delegation from the Nanshan District Government of Shenzhen recently visited Frankfurt, Nuremberg, Munich, and other German cities for economic, trade, and cultural exchange activities. The delegation met with nearly 20 leading multinational corporations and organizations to strengthen existing partnerships and explore new opportunities for investment and trade cooperation.
This visit underscores China’s commitment to pursuing higher-standard opening up and fostering closer economic and trade relations with Germany.
Nanshan, a leading economic and technological hub in China, has deep-rooted connections with Germany in the fields of economy, science and technology, and culture, particularly in advanced medical devices, new energy, and other emerging sectors. Over 50 German companies, including Siemens, Tektronix, and Ledvance Operations and Management, have established operations in Nanshan, while 53 competitive companies from Nanshan, including Mindray Bio-Medical Electronics, Skyworth, and Hytera, have expanded their presence in Germany. This collaborative effort between Chinese and German businesses has become a defining feature of Nanshan’s international engagement, reflecting China’s broader strategy to leverage new quality productive forces for high-quality development and promote industrial cooperation with other nations.
Ingmar Bruder, the founder, chairman, and CEO of trinamiX, a wholly-owned subsidiary of BASF, stated that the company is intensifying its research and development (R&D) efforts in visual perception and biometrics technology and is eager to introduce these innovations to China, leveraging Nanshan’s strengths in artificial intelligence (AI) and intelligent connected vehicles (ICVs).
During the visit, research institutes and businesses from Nanshan District signed cooperation memorandums with Innovation Lab Heidelberg and Siemens Healthineers, respectively, to deepen collaboration in scientific and technological innovation, technology application, and personnel training.
A representative from Innovation Lab Heidelberg highlighted their intention to utilize Nanshan’s advantages in innovation, capital, talent, and industry to allocate research resources in life sciences, production processes, clean energy, and other fields to the district in the future.
Eintracht Frankfurt, one of the world’s most valuable football clubs, signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Nanshan in 2021. Their partnership has yielded successful outcomes in the construction of training centers, youth training systems, and popularization of soccer, serving as a catalyst for broader cooperation between Nanshan and Germany, as well as other European countries, in economy, culture, sports, trade, and science and technology.
During the visit, the Nanshan delegation organized a cooperation session between Nanshan and Frankfurt at Eintracht Frankfurt. At the event, Nanshan-based businesses and organizations, including the Research Institute of Tsinghua University in Shenzhen, VMAX, Tinno Mobile Technology, and iDreamSky, showcased their cutting-edge technologies and products, attracting significant interest from German companies such as Deutsche Bank, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Jarltech, and VR Payment. These companies were impressed by Nanshan’s technological innovation, business environment, and openness.
This year marks the tenth anniversary of the establishment of the all-round strategic partnership between China and Germany. Cooperation, exchanges, innovation, and development have brought China and Germany closer together, paving the way for further progress. A German-funded company stated that Nanshan, a district committed to strengthening global cooperation in emerging industries, coupled with a fast-growing consumer market, a robust supply chain system, an innovative R&D environment, and productive personnel training, will create a new wave of opportunities for foreign investment in China.
