QINGDAO, China, June 23, 2025 — The 6th Qingdao Multinationals Summit took place on June 18 as scheduled. To highlight the “Qingdao story” regarding the business environment during the summit, Phoenix.com Qingdao created a special series called “Qingdao@World Qingdao Stories of Multinational Companies.” This initiative shares stories of multinational companies choosing to invest in Qingdao through interviews, promoting Qingdao’s efforts to build a top-tier business environment, facilitating foreign investment, and fostering mutual trust.
Rong Yihang, General Manager of IBARMIA China
“Our choice of Qingdao was no coincidence,” said Rong Yihang, General Manager of IBARMIA China. The Spanish high-end CNC machine tool manufacturer settled in Qingdao in 2018. The city’s “manufacturing DNA,” with global manufacturing leaders like Haier and Hisense, and high-end equipment demanders such as CRRC Qingdao Sifang and BSIC, which creates a complete industrial ecosystem, resonated with IBARMIA’s headquarters strategy.
IBARMIA’s “Qingdao Practice” has validated the strategic foresight: “Every step we take in Qingdao reinforces our initial decision—this city understands manufacturing and knows how to cultivate ‘high-end manufacturing’.”
At the end of 2024, Modig Machine Tool entered the Chinese market through a joint venture, establishing a collaboration with IBARMIA based on “European R&D, Chinese manufacturing, and global services.” Its precision components have become part of the supply chains of numerous global industry leaders.
Rong Yihang believes that the confidence to expand production comes from Qingdao’s outstanding business environment. “From customs clearance efficiency to talent attraction policies, the Qingdao municipal government team has provided strong support. This pragmatic approach is a key reason why we continue to increase our investment in Qingdao.”
Looking ahead, Rong Yihang’s vision is clear: “Qingdao will be our production base and a strategic key to the Asian market.” This cross-continental industrial collaboration, where the precision manufacturing DNA of Spain’s “hidden champion” meets the opportunities of China’s opening-up, is creating a new model for global resource allocation along the Yellow Sea.
