At the 16th Japan Rice Quality and Taste Research Association Seminar and Premium Japonica Rice Tasting event in Hiroshima, Japan, Nanjing 5718 Sheyang rice received the “Special Excellence Award”.

Sheyang rice is prized for its aroma, texture, and nutritional profile. This variety excels in taste and adapts well to integrated farming methods like rice-shrimp and rice-crab cultivation, aligning with Sheyang County’s focus on sustainable, high-quality rice production. Under the Sheyang County Rice Association’s guidance, Nanjing 5718 has become the flagship variety for the Sheyang Rice brand.

Situated at the eastern edge of China’s north-south geographical boundary, Sheyang County benefits from a humid maritime climate and potassium-rich saline-alkali soil, ideal for rice cultivation. A leading grain producer in China, Sheyang County produces nearly 1.2 million tons of premium japonica rice annually. The county boasts four national-standard green rice production bases spanning 582,000 mu (approximately 38,800 hectares), dedicated to cultivating specialty rice like selenium-enriched, ecological, and organic varieties. For fifteen consecutive years, Sheyang Rice has been among Shanghai’s top ten best-selling rice brands, accumulating over 50 awards, including a spot among China’s top ten regional public rice brands. Its brand value is estimated at 35.721 billion yuan.
