HANGZHOU, China, Jan. 22, 2025 — UTStarcom Holdings Corp. (NASDAQ: UTSI), a global telecommunications infrastructure provider, secured a significant contract from Guangdong Research Institute of China Telecom Co., Ltd. for the production of disaggregated router hardware. This contract, part of the “Self-developed STN-A Equipment Hardware Production and OEM Procurement Project,” involves manufacturing router platforms for China Telecom’s STN network—a metropolitan area network vital for its 5G, enterprise, broadband, and cloud services. China Telecom Research Institute is a leading technology research arm of one of China’s major telecom operators.
The project encompasses a substantial order of STN-A1 and STN-A3 routers. UTStarcom received separate contracts for each of the two packages, with specific quantities to be detailed in subsequent purchase orders:
- Package 1: Production of STN-A1 routers (1RU, 300Gbps switching capacity). UTStarcom secured 70% of this package.
- Package 2: Production of STN-A3 routers (4RU modular chassis, 800Gbps switching capacity). UTStarcom won 100% of this package.
This award builds on UTStarcom’s existing collaboration with China Telecom Research Institute on a “white-box” disaggregated router platform for 5G transport networks.
UTStarcom CEO, Mr. Li Hua, stated that this win represents a key milestone, transitioning their relationship from design services to large-scale manufacturing of STN routers for China Telecom’s 5G infrastructure. He highlighted network disaggregation as a strategic focus, emphasizing its potential to reduce costs and offer open, adaptable solutions. These contracts reinforce UTStarcom’s position in disaggregated network technology and the Chinese telecom market.
