SHENZHEN, China, Aug. 26, 2025 — WeRide (Nasdaq: WRD), a leading global autonomous driving technology firm, has collaborated with Shenzhen Bus Group to inaugurate Shenzhen’s inaugural Level 4 fully driverless Robobus public transportation line in the busy central business district of Luohu District.

The introduction of the B888 line aligns with Shenzhen’s 45th anniversary as China’s initial Special Economic Zone, symbolizing a “birthday gift” from WeRide and Shenzhen Bus Group.

Operating between Luohu Port and MixC Market, trips can be reserved through the Shenzhen Bus Travel WeChat mini program. The outward route spans 6.6 km and the return route 4.3 km, with each journey lasting 30–35 minutes. En route, passengers will see significant commercial and cultural sites such as Guomao, Di Wang Tower, Shenzhen Grand Theater, and MixC Market, offering international guests a direct experience of China’s sophisticated autonomous mobility.

WeRide and Shenzhen Bus Group unveil Shenzhen’s initial Level 4 autonomous Robobus line

Being Shenzhen’s inaugural Level 4 autonomous line within the CBD, the B888 Robobus deftly maneuvers through congested traffic with exactness. Furnished with more than 20 sensors, such as LiDAR and HD cameras, it delivers 360-degree perception extending up to 200 meters, precisely interpreting lane markings, traffic signs, and traffic lights—even those obstructed, flickering, or recently installed—while rigorously observing traffic regulations.

The Robobus possesses the capability to forecast the movements of vehicles, cyclists, and pedestrians, modifying its speed and path as needed. It navigates intricate intersections, like the Jiabin Road and Renmin South Road junction—situations that often pose difficulties for human drivers—with remarkable fluidity and simplicity.

Upon nearing a stop, the Robobus preemptively engages curbside parking mode, making real-time adjustments to facilitate safe passenger boarding and alighting without impeding traffic flow. Comprehensive redundancy across its sensors, computing units, drive-by-wire chassis, and algorithms guarantees that backup systems stay operational even in critical scenarios, thereby optimizing safety.

The B888 Line stands as a pivotal undertaking within Shenzhen’s “20+8” industrial cluster strategy and the city’s blueprint for the high-quality advancement of intelligent connected vehicles, underscoring Shenzhen’s commitment to smart, green, and inventive transportation.

WeRide’s Robobuses have undergone testing or operation in approximately 30 cities across the globe, including Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Beijing, Singapore, Abu Dhabi, Riyadh, Paris, and Zurich. Moving forward, WeRide intends to persist in collaborating with public transport operators worldwide to broaden autonomous shuttle services across a variety of environments, ranging from central business districts and residential areas to tourist destinations, thereby expediting the embrace of autonomous driving technology and catering to additional communities.
