On Sunday evening, the recently canceled The Late Show with Stephen Colbert received the award for Outstanding Talk Series.

Colbert and his team were met with a standing ovation as they proceeded to the stage to accept their honor.

“In September 2025, my friends, I have never felt such a profound love for my country,” Colbert conveyed to the audience.

In July 2025, CBS announced that the show’s termination was “purely a financial decision against a challenging backdrop in late night. It is not connected in any way to the show’s performance, content, or other matters happening at Paramount.” Others, however, speculate it may have been another type of decision.

Instead of playing it safe, The Late Show has become more provocative, especially in its segments concerning President Trump—“essentially daring his bosses to end the show sooner,” as TIME’s TV critic Judy Berman observed earlier this year.

A prime example: Earlier in the broadcast, Colbert humorously handed his “résumé” to Harrison Ford, asking him to pass it on to Steven Spielberg, as Ford was presenting the Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series.
