MMFF 2022 top grossers, box-office earnings


MANILA, Philippines – The Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) 2022 organizers expressed gratitude to all moviegoers as long lines and sold out screenings are really back after almost three years of the pandemic.

Reports said that Partners In Crime, Deleter, Family Matters and Labyu With An Accent were the top 4 films on the first day of MMFF 2022.

“Ako, kasama ang buong pamunuan ng Metro Manila Film Festival, ay taos-pusong nagpapasalamat sa lahat ng tumangkilik sa walong pelikulang bahagi ng MMFF 2022 sa unang araw pa lamang nito kahapon, Araw ng Pasko,” Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) acting chairman Atty. Romando Artes shared on Facebook after their assessment of first day of the festival.

“Labis naming ikinagagalak ang suportang ipinamamalas ng publiko sa MMFF, base sa mahahabang pila sa mga sinehan hindi lamang dito sa Metro Manila kundi sa Luzon, Visayas, at Mindanao,” Artes added.

MMFF spokesperson and film producer Noel Ferrer confirmed in a Facebook post that box office earnings from the Day 1 of MMFF 2022 was higher than the box office gross of MMFF last year.

“Parang revenge viewing ang nangyari ngayon. Nasabik ang nga Pinoy sa pagpanood ng sine at ang kinita ngayon ay mas mataas pa sa total earnings ng MMFF last year,” Ferrer said.

Based on unofficial rankings of MMFF entries, Vice Ganda and Ivana Alawi’s “Partners In Crime” was the Day 1 topgrosser with around Php 30 million earnings.

It was followed by Nadine Lustre’s “Deleter”. Noel Trinidad and Liza Lorena’s “Family Matters” and Jodi Sta. Maria and Coco Martin’s “Labyu With An Accent” were on the third and fourth spots, respectively.

In the previous festivals, MMFF committee agreed not to reveal the figures and rankings of the top grossers, leaving it to the prerogative of the producers to do so.

After the ‘Gabi ng Parangal’ (Awards Night) on December 27, rankings of the 8 films are expected to shake up.

The organizers are also expected to release the official figures and rankings at the end of the festival on January 7, 2023.
