The Emmy-winning studio and the influential media firm will collaborate in funding a series of documentary features.

TIME Studios, TIME’s Emmy-winning film and TV branch, is partnering with Partners In Kind, a media company focused on socially conscious storytelling, to jointly produce and finance a slate of documentary films over the next two years. Both organizations share a commitment to creating cultural and social impact through stories. They will work together on projects that highlight underrepresented stories from around the globe, recognizing the increasing importance of authentic and impactful narratives.

Their first joint venture, WINNIE AND NELSON, directed by the acclaimed Dawn Porter (John Lewis: Good Trouble, The Way I See It), is a biographical political thriller. It delves into the love story between a young Winnie and an older Nelson Mandela, exploring how it ignited a revolution that reshaped the world, turning Mandela into a global icon while leaving Winnie a controversial figure.

Another collaborative project, MONOLITH, which examines the legacy of Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey, was recently revealed. The film is being created with the support of Kubrick’s estate and the Stanley Kubrick Film Archive, and is scheduled for release in 2026. Phoenix Pictures, Catchlight Studios, and Appian Way are producing it. Stevan Riley (Listen To Me Marlon) is directing, with Leonardo DiCaprio as executive producer.

“This partnership represents a natural alignment of our values and vision,” stated Dave O’Connor, President of TIME Studios. “Together with Partners In Kind, we are excited to bring compelling stories to the forefront, highlighting the strength of resilience, leadership, and love when facing adversity.”

“At Partners In Kind, we are dedicated to showcasing unheard stories and providing vital perspectives that are often ignored,” said Gillian Hormel and Shelly Tygielski, Co-Founders of Partners In Kind. “Through our collaboration with TIME Studios, we are honored to support filmmakers who shed light on complex realities, celebrate historical legacies, and encourage audiences to consider the ethical and cultural forces that shape our world. Together, we are dedicated to producing impactful films that educate, engage, and inspire.”

Both organizations share a vision of combining impact with entertainment and are currently reviewing potential projects, along with developing their own. The collaborations between TIME Studios and Partners In Kind will encompass various genres and viewpoints. Each project will focus on cinematic quality and aim to engage viewers with pressing and lasting issues. Through the Partners In Kind Foundation, each film will also have an associated impact campaign designed to broaden its reach, encouraging audience participation, promoting civic engagement, and supporting related grassroots efforts.

Dawn Porter reflected on the importance of investing in documentary filmmaking at this time, stating, “This partnership between Time Studios and Partners in Kind is exactly the kind of support documentary filmmaking needs right now. I hope that other funders will be inspired by this powerful collaboration. Audiences appreciate our films, and this investment enables us to continue serving them.”

TIME Studios is represented by CAA and Partners In Kind is represented by Marc Chamlin at Loeb & Loeb LLP.
