Rapper Travis Scott was arrested by Miami Beach police in the early hours of Thursday on misdemeanor charges of trespassing and public intoxication.
Miami Beach police confirmed the arrest but did not immediately offer any details. Scott, 33, posted his $650 bond, indicating he will be released later on Thursday, according to Miami-Dade County jail records.
His publicists, Jamie Sward and Alexandra Baker, did not respond to emails seeking comment right away. Jail records did not list an attorney for Scott. His agent, David Stromberg, did not immediately respond to a message sent to his LinkedIn account.
Scott, whose real name is Jacques Webster, is a prominent figure in hip-hop. He has over 100 songs that made the Billboard Hot 100 and has had four singles reach the top of the chart: “Sicko Mode,” “Highest in the Room,” “The Scotts,” and “Franchise.”
Ten people lost their lives at Scott’s 2021 performance at his Astroworld Festival in Houston. Attendees were packed in so tightly that many were unable to breathe or move their arms. Those who died, ranging in age from 9 to 27, succumbed to compression asphyxia, a condition an expert compared to being crushed by a car.
Lawyers representing the victims alleged in lawsuits that the deaths and hundreds of injuries at the concert were caused by negligent planning and a lack of attention to capacity and safety at the event.
Scott, promoter Live Nation, and others named in the lawsuits denied these allegations, asserting that safety was their top priority. They maintained that the events could not have been foreseen. The final lawsuit was settled last month.
Following a police investigation, a grand jury declined to indict Scott, along with five others connected to the festival.
