Coney Island Drowning

Two teenage girls tragically lost their lives while swimming at Coney Island Beach in Brooklyn, according to the New York City Police Department.

At approximately 8:10 p.m. on Friday, the NYPD received an emergency call for a water rescue near Stillwell Avenue and Boardwalk West. Upon arrival, officers were informed that two young women, aged 17 and 18, had gone into the water and disappeared from sight.

The NYPD’s aviation, harbor, and scuba units initiated a search and rescue operation. Divers eventually recovered the bodies of both teenagers from the water.

The girls were transported to Coney Island Hospital, where they were pronounced deceased. The NYPD investigation into the incident is ongoing.

Witnesses reported to WABC-TV that a sudden rainstorm occurred, prompting most beachgoers to seek shelter. Despite the inclement weather, the two young women entered the turbulent ocean waters.
