The White House shared a Valentine’s Day meme on its social media platforms. Instead of a traditional romantic poem, the post used a rhyme about illegal immigration.

The meme read, “Roses are red, violets are blue, come here illegally, and we’ll deport you.” The pink background featured President Trump and border czar Tom Homan. The caption said “Happy Valentines Day,” with a heart emoji.

Several organizations criticized the post.

Voto Latino, an organization focused on Latino voter engagement, called the post “offensive.”

The organization stated that the post was intentionally provocative and divisive, adding that using a lighthearted holiday to target immigrant families is irresponsible and undignified for the presidency.

The Hispanic Federation also condemned the post, urging greater intolerance for such rhetoric. Frankie Miranda, the organization’s President and CEO, declared that the White House’s action was not a joke.

Miranda drew parallels to a comedian’s remarks about Puerto Rico at a Trump rally, arguing that this represents a pattern beneath the dignity of the presidency.

The White House’s Valentine’s Day post coincides with Trump’s implementation of new policies. These include measures related to immigration enforcement, border security, and the deportation of undocumented immigrants.
