XIANGTAN, China, July 11, 2025 — The 2025 Hunan Red Tourism and Culture Festival, combined with the 4th Xiangtan Tourism Development Conference, took place in Shaoshan County, Xiangtan City, Hunan Province, from July 10 to 11. The event, themed “Aspiring to Shaoshan ・ Meeting in Hunan for the Future,” featured two principal activities: the “Motherland is So Beautiful” Poetry Recital and the conference’s opening ceremony.
Xiangtan serves as a vital component of the Changsha-Zhuzhou-Xiangtan Metropolitan Circle. Positioned as a central transportation hub in China, the city boasts a history spanning over 1,500 years and is the birthplace of numerous cultural luminaries from modern times, including Jiang Wan (a renowned prime minister of the Shu Han Dynasty), Zeng Guofan (a key minister in the late Qing Dynasty), Qi Baishi (a world-renowned cultural figure), Wang Kaiyun, Yang Du, and Xiao San. It stands as a significant source of Huxiang culture.
During the first half of the year, Xiangtan City experienced increases of 7.3% in domestic and international tourist arrivals and 10.8% in total tourism revenue. Activities at the city’s key scenic spots are unique and mutually reinforcing, fostering the integration of culture and tourism through innovative experiences, thereby providing unforgettable journeys for visitors.
Leveraging national and provincial festivals and events, including the Red Expo, Red Tourism and Culture Festival, and Tourism Development Conference, Xiangtan has introduced cultural and tourism benefit programs, such as consumption festivals and music festivals, focused on brand communication and stimulating consumption.
The city hosted events such as the Hunan-Shanghai Cooperation Exchange Conference, a Shaoshan Special Promotion Conference, and a Shaoshan Red Culture and Tourism Investment Promotion Conference held in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area. Additionally, it facilitated the participation of cultural and tourism enterprises and institutions in various expositions and promotional conferences, thereby strengthening regional cooperation and successfully broadening its market reach in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, and Shanghai.
Xiangtan has enhanced its payment infrastructure for inbound tourism and proactively advocated for inbound tourism policies, aiming to establish itself as a globally recognized cultural tourism destination.
