NANNING, China, Jan. 17, 2025 — A dialogue on urban openness and cooperation commenced Thursday in Nanning, China, bringing together mayors, representatives, and experts from China and ASEAN member states.
Organized by the Information Office of the People’s Government of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, and themed “Building a China-ASEAN Community of Friendship: Urban Openness and Cooperation,” the “Global Mayors Dialogue — Nanning” event included participants from Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Thailand, and Vietnam.
The event featured discussions and exchanges on urban openness, economic cooperation, cultural exchange and integration, and urban governance strategies.
Nanning’s Party chief, Nong Shengwen, highlighted the substantial growth in China-ASEAN economic and trade cooperation, noting that bilateral trade volume surged from over $600 billion in 2019 to nearly $1 trillion in 2024, reflecting deep integration of industrial, supply, and value chains.
Atsaphangthong Siphandone, governor of Vientiane, Laos, emphasized the importance of friendship in fostering peace, security, stability, prosperity, and sustainable development within the community, achieved through increased openness and city-to-city collaboration.
