HAIKOU, China, March 10, 2025 — A delegation from the Hainan Provincial Committee of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) recently concluded a visit to South Africa, Ethiopia, and Egypt. The purpose of the trip was to foster collaboration between Hainan and Africa across various sectors. African government officials and business leaders expressed strong interest in free trade opportunities and a desire to partner with Hainan province.
During Hainan Free Trade Port promotion events in Johannesburg, South Africa, and Cairo, Egypt, the port’s unique assets and significant potential resonated with political and business attendees. Ning Hongwen, president of the Hainan Provincial Committee of the CCPIT, presented the port and its policies, discussed the creation of a bilateral industrial and commercial cooperation system, and encouraged local businesses to seize opportunities in Hainan.
“The Hainan Free Trade Port has achieved impressive results, and we are eager to visit Hainan to further explore its potential,” stated Mr. Jacob Mamabolo, MEC of Gauteng province in South Africa, during the discussions.
Mr. Mohamed Bensdik (PHD), Minister Plenipotentiary of the League of Arab States (LAS) for Asian Affairs and Secretariat of the China-Arab States Cooperation Forum (CASCF), noted that the Arab-China Business Conference, a key CASCF cooperation mechanism, is celebrating its 20th anniversary. The LAS Secretariat will encourage participation from the business communities of various nations in the 11th Arab-China Business Conference & the 9th Investment Symposium in Hainan.
The delegation also visited investment promotion agencies, financial institutions, industrial parks, and business associations. They achieved agreements on assisting African entities in leveraging the Hainan Free Trade Port policy to access the Chinese market and signed six preliminary agreements in areas such as finance, logistics, and medicine.
According to a representative from the Hainan Provincial Committee of the CCPIT, Hainan aims to utilize its policy advantages and resources as China’s largest free trade port to support the growth of African businesses.
