YUEYANG, China, May 23, 2025 — The 4th Hunan Tourism Development Conference will commence with an opening ceremony and cultural tourism promotion event at Baling Square in Yueyang, Hunan, on the evening of May 25. The conference, themed “Three Xiang and Four Waters, Meet in Hunan. Magnificent Rivers and Lakes, Yueyang Under Heaven,” will explore the rich Huxiang culture and address the public’s evolving tourism expectations. The schedule includes 3 main events and 5 supporting activities.

Yueyang, historically known as “Baling,” is a city steeped in history, culture, and scenic beauty. It boasts a combination of famous mountains, rivers, towers, historical figures, and literary connections, establishing it as a significant cradle of Chinese culture and a well-known tourist destination both domestically and internationally.

Yueyang is currently leveraging the historical significance of Yueyang Tower, using it and Dongting Lake as central attractions. These are connected to four ecological themes: “The Smile of Finless Porpoises,” “The Graceful Shadow of Elks,” “The Song of Migratory Birds,” and “The Cuteness of Pandas,” creating a comprehensive ecological and cultural tourism experience centered around a core attraction and multiple related activities. Recent popular events include the “International Bird-Watching Festival” and the “Reed Art Festival,” while tourist destinations such as “Dongting Lake Town” and “Yangsha Lake International Tourism Resort” are experiencing high visitor numbers.

Yueyang is capitalizing on the 4th Hunan Tourism Development Conference to integrate its cultural and tourism sector into the city’s “1+3+X” modern industrial system as one of the “three advantageous industries.” This has propelled the cultural and tourism industry into a period of rapid growth, attracting tourists to the shores of Dongting Lake to admire the “Splendid Scenery of Baling” and immerse themselves in “poetry and distance.”
