The “Happy Chinese New Year – Charm of Jiangsu” Cultural and Tourism Conference successfully concluded in London on January 21st, 2025. Attendees included representatives from the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism, the Chinese Embassy in the UK, the China National Tourist Office London, and the World Travel Market.
The conference, themed “Happy Chinese New Year – Charm of Jiangsu,” showcased the cultural and natural beauty of Jiangsu Province, known as the “land of fish and rice.”
A British singer performed the well-known Jiangsu folk song “Jasmine Flower,” and a traditional Chinese music ensemble played “Moonlit Night on the Spring River.” These performances highlighted Jiangsu’s rich cultural heritage and scenic landscapes.
Accompanying the performances, a Jiangsu Culture and Tourism Photography Exhibition displayed numerous photographs illustrating Jiangsu’s unique blend of modern and traditional elements, material wealth and spiritual depth.
Mr. Chen Jingsong, Deputy Director of the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism, emphasized “Charm of Jiangsu” as the core brand for the province’s cultural tourism. He described “water” as a dynamic symbol of Jiangsu’s geography and “charm” as representing the essence of its culture.
Mr. Chen also cited Suzhou’s renowned craftsmanship and folk arts, Huai’an’s UNESCO City of Gastronomy status, and its twelve UNESCO-listed Intangible Cultural Heritage items as examples of Jiangsu’s enduring cultural legacy.
One British attendee commented, “Through this conference, I’ve discovered how special Jiangsu truly is. Its abundant waterways and refined cultural lifestyle make me eager to visit.”
The Jiangsu Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism also officially opened its Global Communication Centre in London during the event, strengthening cultural and tourism exchange between Jiangsu and the UK.
