SUZHOU, China, Jan. 26, 2025 —

Suzhou, Jiangsu Province hosted the main event of “Intangible Cultural Heritage Celebrates the Spring Festival – Celebrating the New Year in the Ancient City” on January 23, 2025. This event, a collaboration between the Department of Intangible Cultural Heritage of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism, and the Suzhou Municipal People’s Government, brought together experts, scholars, heritage keepers, and representatives from intangible cultural heritage preservation organizations.

The event showcased diverse intangible cultural heritage projects and folk traditions from across China. Suzhou featured supplementary activities like “Intangible Cultural Heritage Lantern Festival Lights Up the Ancient City” and “Intangible Cultural Heritage New Year Paintings Paint the Ancient City,” offering immersive cultural experiences for residents and visitors.

Simultaneously, Suzhou Cultural Investment and Development Group launched the AI short series, “An ‘Unusual’ Suzhou-Style New Year.” This series uses cutting-edge AI to blend Suzhou aesthetics with modern technology, providing a unique audiovisual experience centered on celebrating the New Year with intangible cultural heritage.

The series features Su Xiaotao, a character inspired by Taohuawu woodblock prints, guiding viewers through “Transient Life Like a Dream”; Shen Fu, a paper-cutting scholar, on a paper-cutting and engraving adventure; and Li Li, a Kunqu opera clay figurine, showcasing Kunqu opera and clay sculpture in “Dreamlike Shantang.” The series also explores the intriguing stories arising from the interaction between Biluochun and Dahongpao teas. 

This 22-episode series will be released daily on Suzhou Cultural Investment and Development Group’s official Douyin, WeChat Video Account, and Xiaohongshu platforms from January 23rd to February 13th.
