SHANGHAI, Nov. 04, 2024 — The Shanghai International City and Architecture Expo 2024, held at the Shanghai World Expo Exhibition and Convention Center from October 31 to November 2, was a key event in Shanghai’s celebration of World Cities Day, according to the Shanghai Coordination Center of World Cities Day.

The expo focused on showcasing Shanghai’s achievements in building a people-centered city, highlighting efforts in urban renewal, a livable environment, green and low-carbon development, and a smart city. This focus on people-centered development is a core principle guiding the city’s construction and development.

Shanghai continues to experience rapid transformation. Major construction projects, including advancements in major laboratories and high-tech industrial projects in Pudong, Lingang, and Zhangjiang, are driving the city’s progress. The city’s efforts to create an international sci-tech innovation center are taking shape.

Greenery is a defining feature of Shanghai. The vibrant circle-city ecological belt acts as a dazzling centerpiece, while green spaces within the city provide residents and tourists with diverse opportunities to enjoy nature’s beauty.

Shanghai has made significant strides in improving its multi-level housing and rental system to meet the diverse needs of its residents. The city has boosted the supply of high-quality affordable housing, aiming to enhance its competitiveness and soft power by making it a comfortable place to live.

Shanghai boasts a rich cultural tapestry. The urban renewal of Yuyuan Road has revitalized this century-old street, combining infrastructure upgrades that balance aesthetics and functionality, commercial upgrades that blend local vibrancy with fashion trends, and industrial upgrades that foster both industrial development and urban transformation.

The expo showcased examples of Shanghai’s ongoing transformation, including urban renewal, sustainable development, accessible daily services within a 15-minute radius for urban communities, and age-friendly services.
