QINGDAO, China, Aug. 24, 2025 – The SCO Film and Television Week is taking place in Qingdao, Shandong Province, from August 22 to 31. This event is co-hosted by China Media Group (CMG) and the Qingdao Municipal People’s Government, with support from the China Film Administration. China Media Group Mobile, CMG Shandong, the Publicity Department of the Qingdao Municipal Committee of CPC, the Qingdao West Coast New Area Administrative Committee, and the SCO Demonstration Zone Administrative Committee are serving as co-organizers, while the China Film Archive is a co-sponsor.

Operating under the guiding principle of “Cinema as a Bridge, Harmony through Shared Growth,” the event’s program includes an opening ceremony, a live cinematic dialogue session, two specialized film salons, a global multimedia promotional campaign, and screenings of 30 notable cinematic productions. This international cultural celebration aims to foster advancements in film production and cultural tourism across the nations of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO).

Star-Studded Opening Ceremony

Global Icons Gather for a Borderless Cinematic Showcase

Cinema stands as a universal language, connecting diverse civilizations. This event harnesses the power of film to establish an international platform for cultural exchange and foster collaboration between the Chinese and international film and tourism sectors.

The event convenes filmmakers, musicians, industry leaders, and diplomatic representatives from SCO member states, alongside global film aficionados and the general public. Together, they are embarking on a new era of cross-border collaboration in film, culture, and tourism. By promoting deeper integration between the film industry and cultural tourism, the initiative provides fresh impetus for Qingdao’s growing prominence as a “City of Film” on the global stage.

The opening ceremony, held on August 22 at the Qingdao International Conference Center and broadcast live via CCTV Video, featured impressive cultural performances. These performances skillfully blended cinematic artistry, diverse cultural elements, and humanistic themes, creating an unparalleled audiovisual spectacle for attendees. The action-packed espionage thriller, Red Silk, premiered as the opening film.

Notably, the innovative “Cinematic Qingdao” Global Multimedia Promotional Campaign, part of the event, has engaged dozens of digital creators from various countries. They are producing short videos to document this cross-cultural exchange and highlight Qingdao’s dynamic role as a “City of Film.” This campaign not only underscores CMG’s significant influence in driving local development through its extensive reach but also propels Qingdao’s film and tourism sectors into the global spotlight with renewed vigor.

Innovative Event Format

Cultural Feast with Interactive, Diverse Programs

“Civilizations flourish through interaction and are enriched by mutual learning.” With the goal of deepening cultural dialogue, strengthening mutual understanding among SCO nations, and broadening the scope of cinematic creativity, the “SCO Film and Television Week” offers a forum for both domestic and international filmmakers to connect, share insights, and learn from one another.

The “Cinematic Dialogues Live Session” will bring together nearly 40 film enthusiasts and celebrity guests to explore novel approaches to integrating cinematic art and culture. Global audiences will experience an immersive, close-up view through interactive livestreams. Concurrently, the “Themed Film Salons” will gather distinguished filmmakers, producers, directors, and critics from China and abroad for groundbreaking discussions on film policies, market trends, technological advancements, and artistic styles, thereby fostering profound cross-cultural exchanges.

The film screenings employ an inventive “online + offline” multi-platform strategy. China Media Group Mobile, CMG’s premier digital platform, will host an exclusive online section, streaming 24 acclaimed documentaries and 8 premium TV series from SCO nations, offering a seamless blend of global narratives. For offline viewing, the week has partnered exclusively with Wanda Cinemas for theatrical presentations at three Qingdao venues: Qingdao Wanda Cinema CBD Wanda Plaza Branch, Qingdao Wanda Cinema Licang Wanda Plaza Branch, and Qingdao Wanda Cinema Oriental Movie Metropolis Branch. Further enhancing the summer atmosphere, two open-air screenings will illuminate Qingdao’s cultural night scene during the peak tourism period, contributing to the city’s evening economy.
