SHANGHAI, China, July 26, 2025 — Autonomous driving tech firm WeRide (NASDAQ: WRD) has secured permission from Shanghai authorities to run fully compliant Level 4 (L4) autonomous Robotaxi ride services. The permit, granted during the World Artificial Intelligence Conference (WAIC 2025) in Shanghai, allows WeRide, working with Chery Group and Jinjiang Taxi, to deploy Robotaxis on public roads within the Pudong New Area. This also marks the tenth city globally for WeRide Robotaxi operations.

As part of WAIC’s Level 4 Intelligent Vehicle Experience Showcase, the three partners introduced a fully mass-produced, pre-installed L4 Robotaxi shuttle service. This service connects key Shanghai transport hubs and tourist destinations, such as the Shanghai World Expo Center, Jinqiao, Huamu, Shanghai Pudong International Airport, and Shanghai Disney Resort. The public can book rides using the “Jinjiang Smart Mobility” WeChat mini-program.

WeRide, a leader in Robotaxi technology, and Chery Group, the first Chinese independent brand to sell over a million vehicles, have collaborated on a new generation of mass-produced Robotaxis. Chery’s EXEED premium new energy vehicle brand is making strides in smart, connected, and electric mobility, with advancements in EV platform design.

The companies revealed their jointly developed Robotaxi model, the CER, at Auto Shanghai 2025. The CER utilizes WeRide’s universal autonomous driving platform, WeRide One, and EXEED’s STERRA ET vehicle architecture.

At WAIC 2025, WeRide and Chery demonstrated the CER in operation. Equipped with WeRide’s High-Performance Computing platform and Sensor Suite 5.6, the CER includes over 20 sensors—including affordable LiDARs, HD cameras, and RTK-precision navigation modules—and incorporates five layers of redundant safety systems (steering, braking, parking, communication, and power supply). The CER’s spacious interior and long range, thanks to the EXEED STERRA ET platform, make it suitable for long-distance, all-scenario, high-frequency driverless services.

Since its founding in 2017, WeRide has been a leader in Robotaxi research, development, and deployment. It has initiated Robotaxi testing or operations in nine cities across three countries, including Beijing, Guangzhou, Nanjing, Suzhou, Ordos, Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Riyadh, and Zurich, achieving over 2,000 days of safe operation. The Shanghai permit marks WeRide’s entry into its tenth city worldwide, highlighting its autonomous driving technology and global deployment capabilities.

Moving forward, WeRide aims to strengthen partnerships to advance Robotaxi technology, expand commercial deployments, and improve service standards, thus promoting smarter, safer, and more connected transportation in cities globally.
