GUANGZHOU, China, April 30, 2025 — WeRide (NASDAQ: WRD) received the first driverless road testing licenses in Guangzhou’s Nansha District, authorizing its Robovan W5 for public road testing. The announcement coincided with the unveiling ceremony for the Guangzhou Nansha District’s Autonomous Driving Test Base and Smart Transportation Demonstration Zone in Mingzhu Bay.
This marks the first time such licenses have been granted in Guangzhou since Nansha District introduced its trial safety guidelines for autonomous vehicle road testing in the first quarter of 2025. WeRide, citing its technological leadership and operational experience, is among the first to receive the license, which will expedite the commercialization of its autonomous logistics vehicles.
The WeRide Robovan W5 is designed for urban freight, including express delivery, urban logistics, and point-to-point logistics applications. It leverages WeRide’s L4 autonomous driving technology from nearly six years of Robotaxi operation, ensuring safety and reliability during public road testing and operations.
Designed for scalability and cost-effectiveness, the Robovan W5 boasts a cargo capacity of 5.5m³ and a driving range of up to 220km. Its modular cargo space allows for adaptable storage configurations, addressing diverse urban freight requirements. Operationally, the Robovan W5 facilitates multi-vehicle fleet management, allowing one operator to manage a large fleet efficiently.
WeRide intends to broaden the testing scope and scenarios for its autonomous logistics vehicles, accelerating the commercialization of L4 driverless logistics vehicles and delivering secure, dependable, and efficient logistics solutions.
