Stanley is recalling about 2.6 million switchback and trigger action stainless steel travel mugs due to a potential risk of burns.
The company explains that the mug lids’ threads may contract when exposed to heat and twisting, potentially causing the lid to come off during use, resulting in burns.
Stanley has received 91 global reports, including 16 in the U.S., of lids detaching from these mugs, leading to 38 burn injuries globally (two in the U.S.), with 11 people worldwide needing medical attention.
The recall involves double-walled mugs in various colors (white, black, green), sizes (12 oz, 16 oz, 20 oz), and featuring a polypropylene lid and the Stanley logo.
These mugs were sold at Amazon, Walmart, Dick’s Sporting Goods, Target, and other stores nationwide and online from June 2016 to December 2024, priced between $20 and $50.
Consumers should stop using the recalled mugs immediately and contact Stanley for a free replacement lid (shipping included).
Contact Stanley at 866-792-5445 (8 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET, Monday-Friday) or online to file a claim or obtain more information.
