  • On April 14, 2026, the Ethereum Foundation initiated a $1 million Audit Subsidy Program.
  • This program offers coverage for up to 30% of audit expenses, with certain projects eligible for increased assistance.
  • More than 20 audit firms, such as Certora, Zellic, and Immunefi, have joined via the Areta marketplace.
  • Key partners involved are Nethermind, Chainlink Labs, and Areta.
  • All developers building on the Ethereum mainnet are eligible to apply, with preference given to projects adhering to CROPS principles.

(SeaPRwire) –   A $1 million program has been introduced by the Ethereum Foundation to assist developers with the expenses of smart contract security audits. This initiative, known as the Ethereum Security Subsidy Program, was unveiled on April 14, 2026.

Prior to deploying code on a blockchain, smart contract audits are a customary procedure. These audits are crucial for identifying bugs and vulnerabilities before financial assets are jeopardized. However, the expense of engaging a professional audit firm frequently proves prohibitive for smaller teams.

This new program seeks to address this challenge. Qualified teams can obtain subsidies that cover up to 30% of their overall audit expenditures. Certain projects might be eligible for greater assistance, subject to individual review.

This program forms a component of the Ethereum Foundation’s wider Trillion Dollar Security Initiative. This broader endeavor is dedicated to enhancing the security of the Ethereum network as it manages increasing volumes of value.

Who Is Behind It

This program represents a collaborative undertaking involving the Ethereum Foundation, Areta, Nethermind, and Chainlink Labs. Areta CEO Findlay Boothroyd publicly announced its launch on X.

Over 20 audit firms have committed to the program via the Areta marketplace. Confirmed participating partners include Certora, Cyfrin, Dedaub, Hacken, Immunefi, Quantstamp, Sherlock, Spearbit, Zellic, and Zokyo.

An Expert Committee, comprising representatives from the Ethereum Foundation and its partners, evaluates every application. Teams that are approved receive their subsidy directly via the Areta platform.

In numerous instances, qualifying teams can subsequently solicit quotes from over ten providers. This offers developers a variety of choices at a reduced expense.

Who Can Apply

All developers building on the Ethereum mainnet are eligible, irrespective of their project’s scale or funding phase. This encompasses teams engaged in DeFi applications, NFT infrastructure, and other projects built on Ethereum.

The foundation has stated that preference will be given to teams whose work aligns with its CROPS principles. CROPS is an acronym for Censorship Resistance, Open Source, Privacy, and Security.

Applications are to be submitted via a form on Areta Market. While there is no set deadline, subsidies will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis until the $1 million fund is depleted.

The foundation remarked on X that the program “enhances audit accessibility and fortifies the Ethereum ecosystem.”

The response from developers and security researchers on X has been largely favorable. Numerous individuals observed that decreasing audit expenses could contribute to a reduction in the occurrence of smart contract exploits.

This program does not include any regulatory elements and introduces no protocol-level modifications to Ethereum.

Other blockchain networks have initiated comparable endeavors. Solana, for instance, recently unveiled a security program in the aftermath of the Drift Protocol breach.

Subsidies are currently accessible via the Areta Market platform, and the fund will cease operations once all funds have been utilized.
