CHENGDU, China, Sept. 23, 2024 — The Global Panda Partners 2024 (GPP 2024), hosted by Xinhua News Agency Sichuan Branch, Xinhua News Agency News & Information Center and Chengdu Media Group, is scheduled to take place in Chengdu, Sichuan, around the end of November. The “Panda Homeland” Culture • Creativity Contest, hosted by the Chengdu Municipal People’s Government for this event, began on September 22nd.
The giant panda, a national treasure of China cherished worldwide, serves as an ambassador for global biodiversity conservation, symbolizing harmonious coexistence between humans and nature. China’s dedication to protecting giant pandas is akin to “holding a giant umbrella,” safeguarding other species that share their habitat. Any individual, group, or organization committed to ecological progress, a friendly environment, and sustainable development can be considered a “panda partner.”
With the theme “Coexistence Between Human and Nature,” GPP 2024 aims to solidify the “lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets” philosophy and showcase the beauty of Sichuan, China, and global ecological progress. Upholding the values of “conservation, greenness, sharing,” the event includes an opening ceremony, a culture & creativity contest, and a series of side events. “Panda partners,” including government agencies, professionals, and individuals, will gather at the conference, engaging in cross-border, cross-time, cross-space, and cross-civilization dialogues to foster cooperation in achieving common goals.
GPP serves as a platform for fostering conversations and exchanges that promote consensus for global ecological progress due to its academic, open, and international nature. The opening ceremony is planned to include: publishing a think tank report on ecological progress jointly compiled by authoritative organizations and New China Research (NCR), the think tank of Xinhua News Agency; inviting experts and scholars from both home and abroad to deliver keynote speeches and participate in discussions; announcing the “Panda Partner Cities” and “Panda Partner Brands” lists; collaborating with attendees to jointly proclaim the “Panda Conservation Declaration”; and joining forces with professional healthcare institutions, giant panda protection organizations, and social welfare organizations to launch giant panda-related public activities. The event also intends to organize other events such as a global panda partner Sichuan tour and dialogue, conversations on protection and international cooperation related to flagship species like the giant panda, and China-foreign cultural tourism exchange, among others.
As an integral part of this event, the “Panda Homeland” Culture • Creativity Contest, hosted by the Chengdu Municipal People’s Government, commenced on September 22nd, inviting creative forces from around the globe to submit original works focusing on giant pandas and related culture. The contest features “Best Creation” awards in five categories, including “Best Sculpture,” along with three special awards.
