Boosting See-Through AR Glasses with Exceptional Brightness and a Compact, Outdoor-Ready Design
TAINAN, Taiwan, Dec. 27, 2024 — Himax Technologies, Inc. (“Himax”), a leading developer of display driver ICs and other semiconductors, will showcase its cutting-edge 400K nit Color Sequential Front-lit LCoS Microdisplay at CES 2025 in Las Vegas (January 7-10). This ultra-bright LCoS solution highlights Himax’s market leadership and commitment to advancing AR technology, meeting the demands of key players in the AR field.
Himax’s Color Sequential Front-lit LCoS Microdisplay achieves a groundbreaking 400K nits brightness with only 300 milliwatts power consumption. This exceptional brightness ensures clear visibility even in bright sunlight, ideal for outdoor use. Integrated 2D waveguides further enhance visual clarity, making it perfect for next-generation see-through AR glasses. Beyond brightness, the microdisplay features a compact (under 0.5 c.c.), lightweight design, vibrant colors, and low power consumption – essential for all-day wearability. This makes it an ideal solution for the evolving demands of AR eyewear.
A live demonstration of a prototype AR glasses using the Himax Color Sequential Front-lit LCoS Microdisplay, a collimator lens, and a third-party 2D waveguide will be presented. These glasses achieve over 1,000 nits of brightness, suitable for both indoor and outdoor environments. Himax’s extensive experience (over a decade) in LCoS technology and high-volume production underpins its innovation and collaboration with industry leaders to advance mass-producible AR solutions.
Himax invites attendees to visit its booth (Venetian Las Vegas Hotel, Venetian Tower Suite 34-208) to experience this technology firsthand. Contact Himax to schedule a meeting or booth tour.
