BEIJING, June 12, 2025 — A recent “International Editors-in-Chief Roundtable,” jointly organized by Global Times and Global Times Online (huanqiu.com), convened leading editors from China, Latin America, and other parts of the world. The forum, themed “Harmony and Integration” Approach to China–Latin America Civilizational Exchange, advocated for increased cross-cultural communication and practical collaboration to foster a more balanced and inclusive global media environment.

Malik Sullemana, a senior journalist from the Ghanaian Times, stressed the importance of strengthening economic and cultural ties between China and Latin America, envisioning a partnership built on a shared future. Camila Escalante, Co-Founder of Kawsachun News in Canada, asserted that the current global media landscape requires more cooperation based on mutual respect and trust, and highlighted China–Latin America collaboration as a positive example.

Belal Deeb, Founder of the Taather Podcast Platform from Syria, pointed out that civilizational exchanges between China and Latin America have spurred progress in areas like education and technology, offering valuable models for multicultural coexistence globally. Angelica Maria sánchez REYES, a journalist with Diario El Mundohn in Honduras, noted that civilizational dialogue and technological collaboration are creating impacts that extend beyond traditional trade frameworks.

Chinese representatives also shared positive outcomes from exchanges. Bai Long, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Global Times, mentioned that China has established nearly 200 sister-city relationships with 17 Latin American nations. Networks of Confucius Institutes and cultural centers have become crucial bridges for mutual understanding between people. Under the Belt and Road Initiative, key projects like the Port of Chancay represent deeper and higher-quality cooperation.

Liu Zhen, Vice President of Kuaishou Technology, stated that short videos have emerged as a new avenue for connecting different cultures, with authentic and diverse content stimulating vibrant people-to-people interactions.

Liu Hong, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of XinhuaNet, concluded by emphasizing that both China and Latin American countries have accumulated extensive civilizational experiences throughout history and share similar modernization objectives. He underscored the significance of upholding multilateralism, promoting mutual learning and shared development, and expanding the space for the Global South to express itself within globalization.
