Heihe, Heilongjiang Province, China unveiled the China (Heihe) Cold-Area Car Testing Index on January 8, 2025. This index, the nation’s first of its kind, provides a digital overview of Heihe’s burgeoning automotive testing sector, generating significant interest among attendees.
As China accelerates its drive to become a global automotive leader amidst the industry’s shift towards electric, connected, intelligent, and shared mobility, Heihe is capitalizing on its ideal climate for winter vehicle testing. Its strategic location and favorable conditions attract numerous companies for cold-weather testing of vehicles and components, establishing a unique industrial niche. The “China (Heihe) Cold-Area Car Testing Index,” developed by the China Economic Information Service, measures this progress using a three-pronged approach: industry leadership, industry clustering, and industry-city integration, effectively quantifying the transformation of Heihe’s “cold resources” into economic growth.
The index reveals a robust Heihe automotive testing industry, achieving a total score of 221.72 points with a compound annual growth rate of 22.03%. Significant growth was observed in industry clustering and industry-city integration, showcasing year-on-year increases of 54.58% and 46.29%, respectively. This demonstrates the positive impact and expanding influence of Heihe’s specialized automotive testing sector.
Heihe’s automotive testing infrastructure has seen continuous improvement in recent years, with a testing industry chain developing around the city and extending to surrounding areas. Currently, the city boasts 21 testing bases and more than 120 performance testing roads, catering to diverse testing requirements. During the 2023-2024 testing season, the number of testing companies and vehicles in Heihe increased by 28% and 68%, respectively, compared to the previous season. Heihe plans to continue fostering economic growth through industry-city integration and sector upgrades.
