82nd Annual Golden Globe Awards - Red Carpet Rollout

The 2025 Golden Globes, commencing awards season in Hollywood on Sunday, January 5th, promise more than just speeches and stylish attire.

The event often foreshadows Academy Award frontrunners (held in March). This year may also mark a historic moment, potentially featuring the first openly transgender woman nominated for Best Lead Actress.

Here’s what you need to know about this year’s ceremony:

When and how can I watch?

The Golden Globes Awards ceremony starts at 5 p.m. PT/8 p.m. ET on Sunday, January 5th, at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, California.

Live viewing options include CBS and Paramount+, requiring a Paramount+ with Showtime subscription for live streaming. Non-subscribers can stream the ceremony on Paramount+ starting Monday.

Red carpet coverage begins at 3:30 p.m. PT/6:30 p.m. ET on Variety and Entertainment Tonight’s websites and the Golden Globes website.

Who’s hosting?

Comedian Nikki Glaser, known for her comedic prowess (demonstrated at the 2024 Tom Brady Roast), will host. She faces a less daunting task than last year’s host, Jo Koy, whose jokes drew considerable criticism.

Numerous actors will present awards, including Andrew Garfield, Auli’i Cravalho, Dwayne Johnson, Brandi Carlisle, Coleman Domingo, Nicolas Cage, and Michelle Yeoh.

Nominees?

In film, Jacques Audiard’s film leads with a record-breaking 10 nominations—the most ever for a comedy or musical. Other multiple-nominee films include Sean Baker’s Anora, Edward Berger’s , John Chu’s Wicked, Brady Corbet’s The Brutalist, and the Bob Dylan biopic, A Complete Unknown.

Notable lead actor and actress nominees include Mikey Madison (Anora), Cynthia Erivo (Wicked), Karla Sofía Gascón (Emilia Perez’s ), Coleman Domingo (Sing Sing’s), Nicole Kidman (Babygirl), Adrien Brody (The Brutalist), and Timothée Chalamet (A Complete Unknown).

Gascón’s nomination as the first openly transgender woman nominated for Best Lead Actress in a film is historic. A win would make her the first out trans performer to win a top film acting category at the Globes. In December, she shared her hope for humanity on social media.

Supporting actor nominees include Ariana Grande (Wicked), Selena Gomez (Emilia Pérez), and Kieran Culkin (A Real Pain).

On television, The Bear secured five nominations; Only Murders in the Building and Shogun each received four; and Nobody Wants This earned three nominations, including nods for its lead actors.
