Amidst escalating tensions with Donald Trump and his Republican supporters, Elon Musk, the head of Tesla, has suggested forming a new political party to challenge the existing two-party structure.
Musk initiated a poll on X, formerly known as Twitter, asking his 220 million followers if it was time to establish a new American political party to represent the “80% in the middle.” Approximately 80% of respondents voted in favor.
Musk responded to the poll results on Thursday, June 5, stating that a new political party was necessary to represent the 80% in the middle and that this was “Fate.”
On Friday, Musk proposed the name “The America Party.” This name is similar to that of his super PAC, America PAC, which was created in 2024 to support Trump’s presidential campaign. The super PAC reportedly spent significantly to aid Trump’s election. Musk’s contributions made him Trump’s most prominent donor in the 2024 election.
While Musk previously supported Hillary Clinton in 2016 and Joe Biden in 2020, he announced his intention to vote Republican during the 2022 midterm elections. He subsequently became a close ally of Trump, who appointed him to lead the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
However, a public feud has recently erupted between Trump and Musk on social media. It began with Musk’s criticism of Trump’s “Big, Beautiful Bill,” which he labeled an “outrageous scam” and urged his followers to contact their senators and congressmen to oppose it.
The conflict intensified on Thursday when Musk alleged that Trump’s name appeared in the files related to Jeffrey Epstein. He provided no evidence to support this claim, and the Trump camp has yet to comment.
Musk also endorsed a message calling for Trump’s impeachment and suggesting that Vance should replace him.
Trump has claimed that “Elon was wearing thin” and that he asked the Tesla CEO to leave the White House.
Trump stated on Friday night that he had no plans to speak with Musk.
Some lawmakers believe that the feud between Trump and Musk will be short-lived and that Musk’s idea for a new political party will not materialize.
Republican stated on Friday that he doesn’t believe Elon Musk will create a new political party and that Trump knows that disagreements happen even with trusted friends. He predicted that the two would reconcile within a month.
