While attention is focused on the presidential race, which could determine the next leader of the nation, thirty-four Senate seats are also up for grabs this Election Day.
The balance of power in Congress could either support or hinder the President-elect’s plans for the country.
Democrats currently hold a narrow majority in the Senate, thanks to the support of four independent senators who caucus with the Democratic party. Of the 100 seats, 47 are held by Democrats, and 49 by Republicans.
However, there are a number of competitive races in states like Texas, where House Rep. Colin Allred is challenging Senator Ted Cruz, and in Montana, where three-term incumbent Sen. Jon Tester is facing off against former Navy SEAL Tim Sheehy, who is endorsed by former President Donald Trump.
The Associated Press will “call” states based on their Decision Team’s thorough vote count. Some results might not be available on Nov. 5.
