President-elect Donald Trump reacted Thursday to being named TIME’s Person of the Year for a second time and highlighted the potential for strong US economic growth during his second term.
Trump stated that he enters office in January better prepared to manage his administration and utilize his presidential powers, commenting, “Now we have experience we didn’t have.”
“TIME Magazine, getting this honor for the second time, I think I like it better this time,” Trump remarked at the New York Stock Exchange before ringing the opening bell with TIME CEO Jessica Sibley and others. TIME’s Person of the Year, an annual award given since 1927, recognizes the individual who has most significantly impacted global events, regardless of whether that impact is positive or negative. Trump also received the honor in 2016, his first year in office.
Trump’s family and incoming cabinet members were present, including Vice-President-elect [Name Redacted], daughter Ivanka Trump, Department of Health and Human Services nominee [Name Redacted], Environmental Protection Agency nominee Lee Zeldin, Treasury Department nominee Scott Bessent, and Department of Housing and Urban Development nominee Scott Turner.
Trump advocated for policies incentivizing investment in US manufacturing, including tax cuts for companies producing goods domestically. “We’re going to create the incentive theory again,” Trump explained. “For those that are running the big companies, those great, big beautiful companies, nobody’s going to be leaving us. You’re going to be coming back; you’re going to be bringing it back to the United States. We want you back here, car manufacturers, everybody.”
