(MADISON, Wis.) — A shooting at a Wisconsin Christian school on Monday left three people dead, including a child, and seven others wounded, according to the police chief.

Madison Police Chief Shon Barnes confirmed that the shooter is also deceased.

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Police reported multiple injuries following a shooting at a Christian school in Wisconsin on Monday.

The incident occurred at Abundant Life Christian School in Madison, the state capital.

“This investigation is ongoing,” Madison police stated. “Further information will be released as it becomes available. We urge people to avoid the area.”

Roads surrounding the school were closed by police Monday afternoon.

Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives agents arrived on the scene to assist local law enforcement.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the students, educators, and the entire Abundant Life school community. We await further information and are thankful for the swift response of first responders,” Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers said in a statement.

According to its website, Abundant Life Christian School is a non-denominational institution with approximately 390 students from kindergarten to high school.
