BEIJING, June 25, 2025 — The 2025 Global Digital Economy Conference (GDEC 2025) will commence on July 2, according to an announcement made at a press conference in Beijing on June 23. This year’s conference, themed “Building a Digitally Friendly City,” adopts a “1+6+N” structure, encompassing opening events, a main forum, focused forums, and specialized activities. Its goal is to offer a platform for global digital economy development exchange and cooperation, with an emphasis on the harmonious integration of technology and people, cities, and ecosystems. The conference will emphasize four main themes: openness and sharing, a focus on the latest advancements, industrial integration, and an improved experience.

Building a New Platform for International Cooperation and a Model for Global Collaboration

This year, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is co-organizing the conference for the first time and launching the “UNDP Digital Friendliness and Sustainable Innovation Lab for the Digital Economy” collaboration project. The conference is also expanding its international reach to Europe for the first time through collaborations with events like Mobile World Congress Barcelona 2025 and Germany’s FUTUROMUNDO Multikonferenz & Festival. These partnerships seek to promote China’s global digital transformation strategy.

According to Liu Weiliang, Deputy Director of the Beijing Municipal Commission of Economy and Informatization, the event is expected to draw over 300 international attendees from more than 50 countries and significant international organizations, including the World Trade Organization, BRICS, and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. This gathering will promote mutual understanding and international cooperation between cities in the technological, economic, and cultural fields.

Focusing on Cutting-Edge Technological Innovation

The conference will feature a signature program called “First Launch, First Showcase” to highlight innovative technologies, products, and solutions. It will present leading domestic digital application projects and reveal the “Top Ten Benchmark Applications of Beijing’s Digital Economy,” showcasing how digital technologies support urban development and improve quality of life.

Liu Weiliang stated that a variety of new technologies and products will be used and promoted at the conference for the first time. For example, the theme MV for the opening ceremony will have its lyrics, musical composition, vocals, and video production all created using AI. A global call for submissions will be created using AIGC (Artificial Intelligence Generated Content). Throughout the event, AI-driven real-time translation with voiceprint replication of speakers will be tested. Furthermore, smooth access control and smart seating systems, interactive mid-air imaging teleprompters, and other cutting-edge technologies and products will be used at the opening ceremony venue.

Igniting New Momentum for Industrial Integration and Development

The conference will promote innovation through 46 specialized forums concentrating on new competitive areas like AI integration, digital security, data elements, and digital healthcare. Events such as the Tide-Watching Forum and the Global Open Source Innovation Forum will use cutting-edge technology applications to drive industrial breakthroughs and encourage in-depth collaboration through high-level discussions. A Digital Economy Innovation Competition will also be launched, with a focus on internationalization, specialization, and industrialization. The competition will highlight promising domestic and international innovation projects, including a new category called the “AIGC Creator Track” to promote the use of AI in traditional artistic contexts.

Zhao Junsheng, Deputy Secretary-General of the China Association of Communication Enterprises, stated that the “Digital Economy Industry Experience Zone,” which is being launched this year, will invite a wide range of participants to engage in professional activities and help implement international cooperation projects.

Upgrading Digital Interaction Experiences

The conference will debut a 6,000-square-meter Digital Economy Experience Center as part of “Digital Economy Experience Week.” The center will use AIGC and metaverse technologies to create an immersive, interactive environment that offers engaging digital entertainment experiences. The event will also launch a digital pop-up market called the “Digital Trend Market” in collaboration with companies specializing in smart wearables, smart home appliances, and digital cultural products, allowing attendees to experience firsthand how the digital economy enriches daily life through easy access.
